PROJECT ZAWADI
This SUP Yoga class will benefit Project Zawadi. They're a non-profit that works hard to send kids to school in Tanzania, East Africa. Currently Shine Again Yoga has raised over $400. Our goal is to reach $1,000. This will ensure Mwanaisha, the student we sponsor, will be able to attend school for at least five years. I've known the founder of Project Zawadi, Brian Singer, since 2003 when I traveled to Tanzania to help build a school. I've nothing but respect for him and the work he's doing and has done since first serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in the mid 90s.
SUP YOGA
Sup yoga is essentially modified yoga on the water using large boards that float. Those who have some uncertainty about being on the water can wear life jackets while practicing. All boards will be equipped with life jackets regardless.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We'll meet at Cauble Park. You'll sign a waiver and have a brief paddle board lesson. We'll launch the boards and paddle for about 15 minutes. We'll drop anchor and begin our class. Our yoga flow will be beginner friendly with several postures that will require pressure on the knees. The boards have 3 MM padding, but if your knees are cranky, you may want to bring an extra towel that you don't mind getting wet. A foam or silicone garden pad would also work. After yoga we'll paddle back to where we launched.
WHAT TO BRING
Sunscreen & sunglasses
Swimsuits optional. Just wear something you can move freely in and don't mind getting wet
A dry bag if you plan to take your keys, phone or wallet out on the water
Flip flops or sandals you don't mind getting wet. You will not need to wear these on the board
Towel
Coffee if you're like me yogi Kate T. ;)
Open heart (come willing to learn, laugh and enjoy being outside on the water!)
